Relationship between JIB-PMES CSCS Registration and Grading

Cards of registration

  • JIB-PMES CSCS Registration cards are accept as a national standard by the industry. Regulations issue by the CSCS state that an operative’s Registration Card color is solely base on their qualifications.
  • Consequently, the card color can only be BLUE if the candidate has earned NVQ/SVQ Level 2 or an equivalent certificate. An applicant may apply for a GOLD card if they have earn an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or an equivalent qualification.

Assessment

  • Employers who participate in JIB-PMES largely use JIB-PMES Grades to decide compensation, benefits, and allowances.
  • Grading is an extra component of JIB-PMES CSCS registration that takes experience and credentials into account. Those with Plumbing Craft or Btec L2 qualifications, as well as Plumber Blue and Gold card holders, are subsequently advanced to the basic Plumber grade.
They might advance to the Technician or Advanced Plumber classes based on their work experience and shown abilities.

First-ever Grading

After obtaining a blue or gold JIB-PMES CSCS registration card, all cardholders immediately qualify as “trained operatives,” avoiding the need to apply for “Initial Grading.”

To work as a basic plumber, mechanical pipefitter, heating fitter, gas fitter, or craftsperson, you must have the following grades:

  • A qualifying National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) – MES or Level 2 NVQ Diploma Plumbing Level 2 or its equivalent, such as the Craft Degree from the City & Guilds of London Polytechnic (CGLI)
  •
  • Entry by way of a recognised and registered form of training (usually a 4 year term as a JIB registered apprentice) or other accepted method of entry into the Industry.
  • Must have undergone a minimum of 3½ years training experience in the Plumbing Industry

Choice to Upgrade

If you hold an equivalent certificate or a Level 2 NVQ, your grade as a plumber, mechanical pipefitter, heating fitter, gas fitter, or craftsperson will be the basic grade. Even so, you might think that your experience in the plumbing industry should get you a better Advance or Technician Grade, even with your Level 2 NVQ.

In such a scenario, you are able to submit an application for “upgrading.”
